So you have good ideas, start a project, and then in a matter of days or weeks it falls away? You get all jazzed up, ready to rock and roll, go to the office store to buy new supplies, or get a year membership to the gym, and by week 3, life happens and you’re hitting a motivation dip? I know that feeling. And so do most of my clients, until they make this shift. They do one thing…keep going. That’s it. But how, right? They have full lives, families, and unexpected stuff happen to them, just like you. Successful peeps, like my Grammy award winning clients, or single mom’s running a business clients, share a few things in common. BUT they are not smarter than you. They do not have more resources than you when they first start. And no, they weren’t just born to be successful (that’s the worst myth of them all!). They hatch a plan, and then do something every day or week that leans in the direction they want to go. When things are easy, they keep going. When things are tricky, they keep going. When things are down right awful, they keep going. Here are the 3 ways they keep on keep’n on, when it would be oh so easy to quit: 1) They make molehills out of mountains. Wanting to double your income might sound daunting….but rather than focusing on the end goal, sit still for a few minutes and answer the question…what is one small step I can make towards bringing in more biz? One of my clients owns a salon, and knew she wanted to make an extra $1k each month, so we sat down and came up with a list of ways she could do that, without having to work more hours. From that list of molehills, we picked a couple retail products and a new marketing plan for them, and in less than a month she’s already making an extra $920 monthly. 2) They link something new to something old. Link your actions steps to something you are already doing. For example, if your goal is to get more clarity about your next step, you could do like one of my busy-parent clients, and write 5 minutes of focused journaling while she waits for her coffee to brew. Adding a new habit to existing habits makes it an instant part of your day. 3) They get a tribe. If you aren’t surrounded by a couple people that are already doing what you want to be doing, go find them. Now. Don’t wait. One of my clients worked around the clock, and like her fellow co-workers, she hated to exercise because her day was already so full. But it was a catch 22, because she knew that getting more exercise would give her more energy. So she joined a yoga studio, and found herself reinvigorated just by being surrounded by other folks that also wanted to move and stretch and have more energy. Her “I’m too busy to take care of myself” circle, expanded to include all sorts of motivated people. Now her old friends, that were dragging their heals, look to her for health and lifestyle advice!
